November Update IV

I've definitely underestimated how much time and energy I would be able to put into my projects these past few days. December is going to be a busy month, for sure. I have numerous projects to complete, especially within the first two weeks of the month since I need to give them away as gifts soon. (I'll get more into the details in the December Box post) I do have pictures of what I've decided to declutter for the minimalism game: Day 26 (Books and a knitting needle set) Day 27 (A few clothes -- more updates at the end of this post) Day 28 (24 magnets, 2 sheets of paper, a Kirigami set, and a bookmark) Day 29 (A variety of craft supplies -- more updates at the end of this post) Day 30 (30 hanger clips) Extra Items that were Decluttered 31 more hanger hooks 14 more books 6 small canvases 39 old batteries 1 broken projector I decided to declutter more items because I kept some items, listed here: I couldn't part with these boots or this Spanish set. I also couldn't ...

November Update III

This past week has been spent on working on my group programming project and attending an alumni panel. I also visited a few local nurseries and garden centers because I was curious to see what was around in my area. I found two new garden centers that I’ll probably visit again.   Even though I made an exception and brought home 5 more plants, the no-buy, or rather the low-buy, for the past two months has really given me a new perspective. I have a clearer understanding of my shopping habit. It’s not necessarily about the item that I am bringing into my life, but rather the process of finding the best deals that I feel like would never show up again, adding them to a cart, and then purchasing those items. In my mind, it’s as if the items that I want at the time will disappear forever; thus, it would be best to buy them so that I won’t lose out on them. But as I went about the decluttering game, I found that I haven’t even used many of these items. The reality is that the items I bo...

November Update II

This past week I managed to get 3 more blocks of rows finished on the blanket, and I actually transformed two overalls (one a pair of pants and the other a long skirt) into two overall short skirts. The blanket is coming along beautifully!  I'm aiming for a total of 28 blocks of rows, so that's 7 more to go! (The tension is something I need to work on, but I'm hoping when I add the border, it'll help flatten the blanket a little bit more.) Before (I had already transformed these pair of overalls once before from pants to a long skirt. But I found that I didn't really like to wear long skirts or even long dresses. So I decided to crop it.) The Before and After CUT (I also didn't like the contrast in the two shades of blue. Don't the two pant legs look too obvious here?) After (I ended up using the same shade of blue from the scrap fabric to fill in the triangle parts in the middle of the skirt. I also added an elastic in the back so that it would fit better....

November Update I

I’ve been very productive this past week! I finished the book, “Unbound,” (which I hope the third book comes out soon!), completed Days 1-8 of the decluttering game, completed 5 more block rows on the blanket, and finished the cozy crochet planter pot holder project.   I am so excited for the blanket! I just have 10 more block rows left to complete before I work on the border. Unfortunately, I believe I will need to purchase 3-4 more of the dark blue yarn, but I’ll wait until Black Friday since I still have some of that color left.   I now have a total of 18 block rows. (I will also need to buy more black yarn for the border on the pink/white/black blanket) As for the cozy crochet planter pot holder, I managed to create 2 and a half holders! I can’t believe they were made from t-shirts! I do have an unworn t-shirt that I believe I could use the bottom portion for more t-shirt yarn so that I can complete the last holder. This project was pretty quick, each one took me abo...
