Week 3 - January 2020

I definitely broke my New Year's goals. But I will try my best for the end of the month and for the next month. I guess it was too ambitious to try to aim for the whole year, but instead, I should take it month by month, perhaps week by week or even day by day. I find that towards the second and third week of the month, I begin to splurge on small items.

It all started when I went to return some items at Joanns and needed to see if I could find any fabric for our school's Chinese New Year assembly. I began to look all around for fabric, yet I couldn't resist the remnants. I lost count as to how many items I got. I even then went to the Dollar Tree and CVS to find materials for our Chinese New Year luncheon and materials for the assembly.

I went over my month's budget by $33.61 and it's not even the end of the month yet. Either I am going to need to return some items or exchange them for things that I need for February. My fiancé lives on a minimal lifestyle only buying when he needs something. I need to keep that lifestyle as an end goal for myself. Rather than buying all of these remnants at once, I need to pace myself. It's okay to purchase, but not all at once. I want to get to the point where everything around me are things that I need and that when I feel the urge to create a project, I am able to go out and shop without feeling guilty because I have too many projects already at home.

I think I lost sight of my challenge this month. Rather than working on the projects that I had set for this month, I began to work on new projects using materials that I would buy at the store. I need to take these last two week of January and really reflect on what it is that I am doing with my life. Honestly, I feel that I let the joy of shopping take over because it is easier (and more fun) to hunt for deals and buy rather than sit down and tackle a project, which may be hard. Furthermore, when I am done with a project, I somehow don't get the same feeling as when I purchase an item. That instant gratification is nonexistent after a project. I have to somehow turn things around and make the end result of a project feel more rewarding than buying.

I did work on a two piece yoga set, which patterns were free on So-sew-easy. I can't wait to sew the fold over elastic and wear the set!

I also made some cinnamon rolls for the first time, which was fun and amazing!
